About this Volunteer Role

Our new Esmond Street Service for older people with learning disabilities/complex needs is looking to recruit a volunteer driver to support the service with all driving related tasks. This includes supporting people to attend daily activities and appointments, supporting the service to run errands, go shopping etc. and any other driving related task depending on the needs of the service.

It is the ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys driving but also wants to help support people with disabilities. 

You will have the Opportunity to Gain:

Experience of working with adults with learning disability within a 24/7 service.

Acess to in house training initiatives.

The chance to develop your driving whilst meeting a range of new people.

Opportunity Available: Hours are negotiable. We mainly look for drivers during daytime hours but evening drivers would also be helpful.

Where does it happen/ how do I get there?: Our Esmond Street Service operates from 61 Esmond Street , G3 8SL, in the Yorkhill area of the city's West End. Drivers will usually be expected to drive anywhere in and around the Glasgow area.

Volunteer Handy Person

ENABLE Glasgow/Esmond Street Service

Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer for this opportunity.

About this Volunteer Role:

We are looking for a volunteer to help us with odd jobs and general DIY tasks within our new Esmond Street Service in Yorkhill.

The volunteer would be working to help us with general maintenance within the service for adults with learning disability.

You will have the opportunity to gain:

-experience of working within a community setting.

-new skills/ access to in house training

- experience of working within a 24/7 service for people with learning disability

Opportunity Available: Hours negotiable Esmond Street is a 24/7 service.

Volunteer Gardener

ENABLE Glasgow/Esmond Street Service

Minimum Age: You must be at least 16 years of age

About this volunteer role:

We are looking for a volunteer to help us with general gardening tasks at our new Esmond Street Service. This will include general maintenance and helping to get people with learning disability involved in some gardening tasks.

You will have the oppoprtunity to gain:

- experience of working within a medium to large garden setting

-experience of working with people with learning disability

-access to in house training and new skills

Volunteer Crafter

ENABLE Glasgow/Esmond Street Service

Minimum Age: You must be at least 16 years of age

About this volunteer role: We are looking for someone who is competent in sewing/alterations to help us with furnishings etc. at our new Esmond Street Location.

This role can include some group work with adults with learning disability.

You will have the opportunity to gain: access to training and experience of working to aid a new community venture. You will also have the opprtunity to pass on your skills and experience and meet new people.

Volunteer Garden Centre Worker

ENABLE Glasgow/ Fortune Works

Minimum Age: You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer for this opportunity.

About this Volunteer Role:

We are looking for a volunteer to help support the work of our increasingly popular garden centre at our  busy Fortune Works Project in Drumchapel.

The individual would preferably have some garden centre experience and/or a good knowledge of plants. The successful candidate would be working with our gardening team including people with learning disabilities and would also be expected to work with the public.

Tasks might include planting, watering, supporting people to make hanging baskets and other general garden duties.

 If relevant the volunteer might be asked to contribute to business plans to further develop the garden centre and some admin skills might come in handy ( although this is not strictly necessary for this post!).

You will have the opportunity to gain:

Practical experience within a small garden centre environment, including the opportunity to gain experience of helping to support people with learning disabilities.

Opportunity available: Mon- Fri 9am- 4pm (with option for weekends). We offer flexibility of hours to volunteers, so any time you can give within these hours can be negotiated.

Volunteer Administrator

About this opportunity:

Are you looking to develop your office administration skills within a friendly and diverse team? Do you want to help make a difference to a small charity working with people with learning disabilities? We are looking for a volunteer administrator to help with the day-to-day running of our busy social enterprise project for adults with learning disabilities in Drumchapel. This varied role will offer practical office assistance to help our work and will involve some  direct and indirect work with people with learning disabilities.

Tasks might include:

Assisting with general office duties (answering phone calls, filing, photocopying etc)

Assisting with mail merges, sending letters and communication to service users and families

Reception duties.

You will have the opportunity to gain:

Practical experience within an office environment

The chance to develop your skills whilst gaining experience of working with people with learning disabilities

The chance to meet and work with a range of new people

 

Opportunity available: Mon- Fri 9am- 4pm

 

Frequency and Commitment: Flexible depending on your availability. Office hours are Mon-Fri 9am-4pm and as long as you decide on the hours you want to do and stick to them as far as possible, this is fine with us. It is preferable that you volunteer within the role for a minimum of  6 months. However we can negotiate on this and you can of course, alter hours within this time to fit your schedule.

Volunteer Social Activities Supporters

We are looking for reliable and conscientious volunteers to join our excellent volunteer teams at our popular day and evening social clubs.

Our social clubs offer adults with learning disabilities a regular and affordable way to meet up with their friends, play pool, darts, snooker, table tennis and take part in activities such as dancing, arts and crafts, and bingo.

Your role as a Volunteer Social Activities Supporter will be to offer flexible support to both groups and individuals in all aspects of club activities.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and have a positive attitude towards people with learning disability. Full induction as well as access to further training opportunities and travel expenses are provided.

Frequency & Commitment: Minimum of two hours per week, preferably for a minimum of 6 months.

Evening clubs are 6.30-8.30pm and Monday club is 10am-12noon.

You can choose either day or evening, 1 or 2 days. For our Monday day club, we would hope volunteers can make a minimum commitment of 1 year.

Volunteer Supported Living Assistants

ENABLE Glasgow’s Volunteer Supported Living Assistants are given an excellent opportunity to experience all aspects of day to day social care within a supported living setting.

We have two supported living services, one in Broomhill in Glasgow’s West End and the other in the south side of the City. Both projects offer a unique and in depth experience of working to support people in their own homes.

This includes promoting person centred activities and involving people in the life of the local community.

Please Note: All Volunteer Supported Living Assistants are expected to support people with their personal care.

To experience the most from the service, volunteers are encouraged to undertake different shifts and get involved at different days and times of the week.

Volunteers will support to their weekly training session and be involved with the training of both ladies and gents teams.
